What:
This year, instead of running the formal OBDR trails as delineated by OOHVA, we are doing something a little different. We will be visiting Steens Mountain and surrounding area (aka Steens Mountains, Alvord Desert, Whitehorse Hot Spring, Jordan Craters, Trout Creek Mountains, Pueblo Mountains, Catlow Valley, Blitzen, et cetera).
This will probably be about a ten-day event. Rather than running a long trail that starts at one end of the state and goes to the other, we will set up a camp and make day trips out of that to explore; move to another camp and operate out of that for a few days; move to another camp and operate out of that for a few days; and so on until the end of the week. This is similar to the Death Valley trips that the California folks do every other year. One advantage to this method is that folks that want to bring RVs can do so. It also means that we can split up into smaller groups if we want to.
